Xiaomi MIX 4 launched with a 20MP CUP (Under-display) Front Camera, 120W Fast-charging, and a Snapdragon 888+ — DNKNWNBYTS

 

   It is now finally official! After two years of research and development, Xiaomi has finally achieved the perfection of the Under-display Front camera tech or what they call CUP or Camera under Panel Technology. Xiaomi MIX 4 is the first smartphone from the brand to boast the said technology, and it is the successor to the MIX concept series.

    The Xiaomi MIX 4 has a 6.67-inch 3D Curved 10bit AMOLED Panel, with an FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It also has Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support and a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1. While the dual speaker setup on the device has Hi-Res Audio and is tuned by Harman Kardon.

     

    To achieve the virtually invisible camera, they have to reduce the pixel size and increase its brightness to have the uniform display quality throughout the panel, and then use unique patterns of wave that can minimize light diffraction, and lastly, they need to redesign the circuit array to increase the transparency of the area resulting to a good pixel density of 400ppi. Also, the 20MP CUP Front camera has a 1.6-micron size with 4-in-1 superpixels and is optimized with dedicated algorithms to improve and retain the picture quality taken from the front camera.

   Powering the device is the Snapdragon 888+ with a leading ARM Cortex X1 architecture for the Adreno 680 CPU that enables more efficient processing and an Adreno 660 GPU for delivering and rendering immersive graphics. The 6th-gen Qualcomm AI Engine powered by Qualcomm's Hexagon 780 processor brings a performance improvement of 23% having the astonishing 32 TOPS (trillion operations per second) count. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X60 Modem RF-System inside the 888+ delivers a peak download rate of 7.5GBPS and a peak upload rate of up to 3GBPS, while the Qualcomm Spectra 580 ISP can enable the capture and parallel processing of up to 2.7 gigapixels per second.

    Mi MIX 4's triple camera setup on the back consists of an 108MP primary lens with sensor size of 1/1.33-inch, followed by a 13MP Free-form ultra-wide angle camera with 120-degree field of view and a 8MP 50X periscopic lens with OIS. While the front camera as mentioned earlier is a 20MP. It can shoot videos with a maximum resolution of 8K 24fps, it also has Gyro-EIS for steady video.

   It has a 4500 mAh battery capacity and is capable of 120W fast wired charging that can fully charge the device in just 21 minutes on Default mode, while the Boost mode can fully charge the device in just 15 minutes. It also has a 50W fast wireless charging that can juice up the device in 45 minutes in default mode and 28 minutes in Boost mode. It can also maintain a rear temperature of 37 degrees Celsius while charging.

    To reduce the heating, graphite and graphene component sheets that used has reduced to 50% in weight to ensure effective heat dissipation and cooling. Aside from that, the phone has 19 antennas and 42 frequency bands that are optimized and can adapt to certain scenarios for best signal reception.

    Like its predecessors, the MIX 4's rear has a lightened and fine Ceramic unibody that is sturdy and premium to touch. The available colors are Ceramic Black, Ceramic White, and Shadow Gray. It also has Aluminum frames for better grip, a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus screen, and an IP53 rating for Dust and Splash protection.

    Additional features include LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, MIUI 12.5 on top of Android 11, NFC support, IR Blaster, Bluetooth 5.2, Qualcomm Quick Charge 4, and Power Delivery 3.0 support. There 4 storage options available, 8GB RAM/128GB ROM , 8GB RAM/256GB ROM , 12GB RAM/128GB ROM, and 12GB RAM/256GB ROM.
